The Show Must Go On! 2020 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival

The 2020 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival will be held between November 5th and November 22nd in Taipei, kicking off with double opening films Classmates Minus (dir. HUANG Hsin-yao, 2017 Golden Horse Awards Best New Director) and the dark comedy A Leg (dir. CHANG Yao-sheng, co-writer of A Sun). The festival also closes with double feature films from Hong Kong: The Way We Keep Dancing, a reunion of director Adam HUANG Sau-ping and leading actress Cherry NGAN, and Hand Rolled Cigarette, a collaboration of emerging director CHAN Kin-long and Hong Kong Film Awards-winning actor LAM Ka-tung. All the nominated films will be screened at the festival; moreover, there will be the Detention series, Venice VR Expand selected Great Hoax: The Moon Landing (dir. John HSU) and several world premieres, showcasing the abundant creativity of Chinese-language cinemas.

Latest works by heavyweight maestros, fresh air breezed out of the new talents and timeless classics newly restored: all of these would be screened at this year’s Golden Horse Film Festival, along with two Filmmaker in Focus sections featuring acclaimed UK director Alan PARKER and KAWASE Naomi from Japan, including her latest film. As a tribute to the 60th Anniversary of Psycho, a series of great films influenced by it will be shown. Signature sections about gender, music, fantasy and film history are not to be missed. The newly-curated addition On the Road will break the geographical boundaries and lead on an expedition to the world in the year of pandemic.

Not only is Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival the biggest movie event in Taiwan, it is also a fearless endeavor to make breakthroughs like the program section Beyond the Verdict, a collaboration started in 2019 with the Judicial Yuan to combine current affairs and issues on law and justice, and thus create room for deeper conversations. This year, newly added Golden Horse Currents is curated for the young generation to spark more diverse imaginations. There is also a joint effort with the Ministry of Culture to present the special screening of We Are Champions, with audio description to help the visually impaired enjoy the movie. What a film festival stands for keeps expanding over time.

In the year full of changes and challenges, Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival keeps sprinting vigorously. Come join us to experience the appeal of movies, as we encourage each other to move forward to a better tomorrow.
