2021 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival

Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival (TGHFF) is the largest and longest-running film festival in Taiwan. The 2021 edition will be held in Taipei from November 11th to November 28th, with 172 films totaling 445 screenings, expected to draw over 80,000 attendances.

The festival opens with Terrorizers, the latest directorial collaboration of Golden Horse Awards Best New Director winner HO Wi-ding and HU Chih-hsin. The closing film Keep on Walking: The Man and His Higher Course is a documentary helmed by HO Ping about legendary Taiwanese director LEE Hsing.

The highly anticipated Golden Horse Awards received 573 submissions this year, and all the 42 nominated films will be screened at the festival, along with several latest Chinese-language productions which will have their world premieres here.

TGHFF serves not only as a prominent stage for Chinese-language films but also as a showcase for many international films. In addition to award-winning titles from Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Rotterdam, Locarno and Sundance, the festival also introduces outstanding Asian films and collaborates with the NETPAC Award to encourage emerging Asian filmmakers. To meet the diverse needs of enthusiastic cinephiles, the festival also presents various carefully-curated sections such as "L.G.B.T.Q.+", "Wonderland", "Restored Classics" and "Film and Legend". This year, a special section "Viva La Cinema!" will warmly welcome the audience back to cinemas, together with three filmmakers in focus: late Japanese director SOMAI Shinji and two sought-after Israeli directors, Nadav LAPID and Eran KOLIRIN.

As the leading and most influential cinematic event in Taiwan, TGHFF never stops enhancing the positive impact of cinema. For instance, the Judicial Film Festival is a collaboration project with the Judicial Yuan that fosters social dialogue on justice issues; Golden Horse New Currents leads teenagers to explore the vast cinematic universe, and the Audio Description Project aims to offer a friendlier environment for the visually impaired. The fruitful results of Golden Horse Film Project Promotion and the finished works of Golden Horse Film Academy will also be presented at the festival.

The ever-galloping Golden Horse not only presents the greatest number of films in best quality, but will also continue the effort to break the existing frameworks and keep expanding the significance and spirit of film festivals.
